RocPlane is an interactive software tool for performing planar rock slope stability analysis and design. RocPlane makes it easy to quickly create planar models, visualize them in both 2D and 3D, and evaluate analysis results. RocPlane contains many helpful features that allow users to rapidly build, modify and run models. RocPlane also includes functionalities for easily analyzing results, generating figures and charts, and producing convenient summaries of models and results. The report generation features of RocPlane are especially useful to engineers when writing reports with high-quality, and professional-looking drawings and diagrams. They help slope designers to readily communicate findings to people with varying slope engineering knowledge. In RocPlane, stability can be assessed using either Deterministic (safety factor)or Probabilistic (probability of failure) analysis methods. For a Deterministic analysis, RocPlane computes the factor of safety for a wedge of known input parameters. For a Probabilistic analysis, statistical data can be entered to account for uncertainty in input parameters (orientation, strength, water and external forces). This results in a safety factor distribution, from which a probability of failure is calculated. In addition to Deterministic and Probabilistic analyses, a Sensitivity Analysis can also be performed. This allows the user to study the effect of individual variables on the safety factor of the wedge, by automatically varying one variable at a time, while keeping other variables constant. In RocPlane, sensitivity analysis allows the user to determine the "sensitivity" of the safety factor, to variation in the input data variables. This is done by varying one variable at a time, keeping all other variables constant, and plotting a graph of safety factor versus the variable. The user can also generate plots with multiple parameters to determine which has the most influence on the factor of safety. In this case, the horizontal axis will be in terms of Percent Change. The Percent Change is the relative difference between the Minimum value of a variable (0 %) and the Maximum value of a variable (100 %).The sampler option is also available in the Sensitivity Analysis, allowing user to obtain exact values of points on the sensitivity curves. Placements of bolts in RocPlane is simple. Bolts are added individually to a wedge model by moving the cursor into the Top or Front orthogonal views. As shown in the Bolt Property Dialog, bolts in RocPlane contain the following features: - Simple placement - Define load capacity and length for each bolt - The bolt capacity is entered as a force per distance, taking account of the spacing of the bolts in the out-of-plane direction. - Optimize orientation of rockbolts - Calculation of bolt capacity for a specified factor of safety - Active or passive bolt models - Instant calculation of safety after after addition of reinforcement - Simple addition / deletion / modification of individual rockbolts.
